League Update 37

21st January 2021

LJW Update – No. 37

On the move – ORT House, where the League has its office, has been sold and we have had to find new premises. As you can imagine, this has not been easy even without the problems the pandemic has causes.
As we no longer have staff, storage facilities have been investigated but we are very fortunate that the Sukkat Shalom Synagogue in Wanstead, East London, has offered us, for hire, one of their offices. This means that we have a home and an address.
When this pandemic is over, and we all know that this will happen, decisions can be made as to whether we find this office adequate or if we need to look elsewhere.
Our move will take place on Thursday, 28th January 2021 in accordance with the Government’s regulations but dependent on if there are further lockdown restrictions. Details of our new address will be distributed in the next couple of weeks when all arrangements have been finalised.

As some of you know, if you have been trying to give a donation to the League, this facility is not working correctly on our website. In fact, it hasn’t been functioning properly since before Christmas. It seems to have a mind of its own and will not allow any variations on the amount to be donated. It has taken all this time to find out what the problem is and for a quote for the work to be sent to me. The cost is astronomical and the Executive Committee will need to discuss this further.
If you would like to leave a donation and are encountering any problems, please contact yvonne@theljw.org who will give you the League’s bank details so that the donation can be paid directly into our bank account. If you wish to use the Gift Aid facility, a form can be emailed to you.

Subscriptions – Where possible, please pay your subscription to your group. If you are a Central member you can either pay through the website or you can contact yvonne@theljw.org who can give you the League’s bank details so that you can transfer the money. Of course, if you encounter any other problems, please contact Yvonne. If you have already paid your subscription, please ignore this information.

Generation 2 Generation enables learning about the Holocaust through personal stories of survivors, presented by their children and grandchildren. These presentations cover a diverse range of personal experiences, integrating first-hand survivor testimony.
Through their work, they aim to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are learned: the need for tolerance, empathy and understanding of all groups in society; the fact that prejudice and discrimination can motivate genocide.

On Sunday, 17th January 2021 at 6pm they are organising an event which may be of interest.
