League Update 21

LJW Update – No. 21

If you had a free TV Licence up to 31 July 2020, don’t worry, you’re still covered. During August and September, you will receive a letter to explain what you need to do to set up your next licence. Or you can sign in to set up your new licence now.

In August 2020, the BBC introduced a new scheme that offers some over 75 households a free TV Licence. You can get a free TV Licence if you, or your partner living at the same address, receive Pension Credit.

DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY EMAILS ABOUT YOUR TV LICENCE – WAIT FOR THE LETTER

It is with great sadness that we have had to offer our office staff, Jackie and Tania, voluntary redundancy which they have accepted. Unfortunately, entirely due to the Pandemic, there is no work that can be offered to them now and for the foreseeable future. They have been on furlough since mid-March and they will be employed until the end of October 2020.

Jackie joined the League staff in 1999 and Tania in 2008 and we are sure that at some time you will have been in contact with them.

If you wish to contact them before the end of October, they are able to respond and will be happy to hear from you.

Zoom has been a life line for many of us. When we were in strict lockdown, those of you who are able to use Zoom could see family and friends. It wasn’t as good as seeing them in the flesh but it was certainly better than nothing.

Many groups are using Zoom for their monthly meetings and it would seem that this will be the norm for the time being.

If you belong to the League of Jewish Women, you can attend any meeting of any group and this may be a good time to experiment. If any member wishes to attend any particular group meeting (as long as that group are using Zoom and with the knowledge and permission of the Chairman) then please let me know and I will send you the necessary information.

We have many Central members who do not have the opportunity of attending a group meeting. It would be great if any of you would like to attend a virtual group meeting or perhaps you would like me to set a meeting up for Central members. You only need to ask and I would be delighted to do this for you.

I had a ‘blast from the past’ experience this week. I was looking at the Brady Photographic Archive (www.bradyarchive.co.uk) and some new memorabilia had been added. There was the Brady magazine – New Bradian Spring 1964 -and when I scrolled down and down and down, I found an article I had written about the drug scene. How strange to read your thoughts from 56 years ago when I was 16. One of my grandsons commented that “it sounds just like Booba”!!!!!!
