June Jacobs was an incredible lady and a beloved member of The League who sadly passed away last year. June was a past President of the International Council of Jewish Women from 1996 – 2002. She has been described as a Jewish Social Justice campaigner for Peace and Women’s rights. June was the founder of the National Council for Soviet Jewry and travelled to the Soviet Union to meet and campaign for “refuseniks” who had been denied permission to emigrate. She was one of the lobbyists for the European Women’s Lobby and was also a member of the National Association of Women’s Organisations. She was at the forefront of so many campaigns including THE GET. She was held in such high esteem by people from various countries, communities and different walks of life. June seemed to spend her life jetting off to attend important international meetings yet always had time for the League of Jewish Women and was a committed member. She was awarded a CBE in 2009 for services to human rights and interfaith relations.
